After a tumultuous week, the name of the new UWSU president was finally revealed last Friday.
The UWSU election results confirmed Mustafa Mahmoud as the winner in the presidential race.
The third-year Software Engineering student could not contain his satisfaction at the outcome.

“I wasn’t expecting to win, but I put in 110% and literally gave it my all. I haven’t been eating or sleeping for the past three weeks”, he said.
Mahmoud’s first aim is to make sure students know how much the university can do for them.
“I will bring the community together. Everyone should join societies, activities, sports, go to events and have fun. We are here to have fun, and get a degree out of it as well. We are not here to waste time.”
Another focal point of his campaign was the return of January exams. Mustafa believes that it is not fair for students to take exams in April or May for modules studied in the first semester.
His last goal for the upcoming year is the introduction of the Operation Skill Expansion (OSE).
OSE is a scheme that will give graduates the chance to participate in small projects after graduation, combining areas of study (such as music and fashion).
This should enable students to get more experience and a further insight within multiple fields and courses.
When asked about the disqualification of his opponent Kaled Mimouni, which shook up the final week of elections, Mahmoud seemed reluctant to comment.
“I would rather not comment on it. It is a game, and you have to play by the rules. I followed the rules and I think I got what I deserved because I really worked hard for it.”
Mahmoud is not new to leadership roles, having been recently voted Software Engineering course representative for the third year in a row, as well as becoming captain of the men’s football team.
